Designed by Cecilia Baeza and Celestino Illustrisimo

Under the direction of Juan Fuentes, Director Mission Grafica, Mission
Cultural Center for Latino Arts (MCCLA), Cecilia Baeza and Celestino
(Tino) Illustrisimo each designed one half of the mural for the utility box
at the Southwest corner 24th and Capp Streets. Both Cecilia and Tino
are seniors at the June Jordan School for Equity.

Cecilia has been interning at MCCLA Mission Grafica for almost two
years. For nearly one year,Cecilia has also served as an intern with
California Lawyers for the Arts in its Youth Spotlight Program. Cecilia
says, "These programs have given me strength to continue to make art
that gives people awareness about the issues that are affecting my community.
I dream of exhibiting my work in the future."

In Cecilia's words, "The purpose of my piece of the mural is to bring
consciousness. This piece is also dedicated to all the women of color who
are struggling to make change." For this reason, Cecilia pictures a woman
painting Paz, to represent all the women, and women activist in her community.

Tino is an artist and a student organizer. He has worked with Yerba Buena
Center for the Arts in its Young Artist At Work Program. He has also interned
for H.O.M.E.Y (Homies Organizing Mission to Empower Youth) and YMAC
(Youth Making a Change). Tino is currently interning at the Filipino Community
Center in the Excelsior District.

For Tino, "The message I am sending out in my side of the mural is that the
microphone represents the voices of the people in the communities, the sun
represents the dreams and the tome stone is to remember those who have
passed away and will never be forgotten."
