Drink Cultura

© 2007 Precita Eyes Muralists Urban Youth Arts.

In October 2007, Precita Eyes Urban Youth Arts in collaboration with the MOCJ completed the "Drink Cultura," mural project located in Balmy Alley. As the viewer faces the painting, the dominant central image is a glowing symbol of peace. This is the main theme of the mura, as agreed upon by all of the participants and young emerging artists.

Within that context, each of the artists worked on his or her contribution. Nate, an artist currently on probation for graffiti vandalism painted a large Sumo wrestler on the far left hand side. The wrestler holds a bomb, with a large bite taken out, from which doves fly out.

Several students wanted to comment on American culture as one of our most influential exports. Just to the left of the sumo wrestler, Carrie who is also currently on probation for graffiti vandalism, painted a large green pac-man devouring little bombs. Javier created the airplane at the top, which instead of bombs drops junk food.
