Starting on the left is the California Academy of Sciences, surrounded by iconic San Francisco elements like Salesforce Tower, Transamerica Pyramid, and Sutro Tower—grounding the piece in the city’s identity. Moving to the right, surreal, larger-than-life animals from across the world flow through the composition. Texture plays a big role—the bumpy surface of a whale, brightly colored animals such as the dart frog and iridescence of jewel beetles inspire participants to paint with bold colors, and participants can play with patterns by including giraffes. These animals also hint at global connection, since they are from all over the world, and the feeling of being part of something bigger. Inspired by biophilic cities, the mural blends urban architecture with organic life, letting the two interact rather than sit separately. Grounding through it all is graffiti lettering, grounding the piece in the Bay Area’s street art legacy and contrasting with the more structured architecture. The animals live on the “wild” side, while the buildings lay on the "urban" side of the word to create a collective dialogue.
